The course content concentrated on the practice of Kata and its application.
The practice revealed how small details can be considerably important when attempting to apply Kata when attacked by an opponent. Small changes in positioning, timing, weight distribution and form can have a beneficial effect when utilised properly and a detrimental effect when not practised properly. Application reveals errors in balance timing and understanding of the body’s movement which can occur when practicing the Kata without considering its purpose.
As usual the course was most informative and enjoyable. As a senior grade I was impressed with the level of enthusiasm from all those attending. It was as always good to practise with different grades from different clubs. When we practise in our own club it is all too easy to be familiar with club members timing, favourite attacks and consequently responding is easier. When we train with different people and different grades from other clubs it is necessary to quickly learn their movement and timing to produce a similar result from that achieved with your own club members.
Hence we improve our general skill level.
As usual the course was most informative and well worth attending.
