Tying Your Belt

Belt / Obi - strong strip of material that is tyed around you waist to hold your Gi (suit) in place. Colour of belt also indicated skill level.

Remember, you can always ask a club mate or your instructor to help you tie a belt. There are many different ways, here is a simple guide:

1) Hold belt stretched out in front of you, try to have equal amount of length in each hand..

2) Wrap each end of the belt behind you, pull out at other side and hold away from your body. You can straighten out the back a bit if you want.

3) Pull the left end over the first layer of belt on your front to the middle (in line with your belly button) and let hang.

4) Now, pull the right end over to the middle, make sure the right side is on top of two layers of belt.

5) Now scoop the right end (which is on top) Down and under both layers of belt, pulling it up at the other side.

6) You can now adjust belt so that each end has equal length. Now tie both ends in a REEF
(simple) knot.
